Restrictions

Our cottage is best suited for adults, our rates are based on a 4 person occupancy and we have a maximum 6 person. A surcharge applies for a 5th or 6th person.

Children - please ask. Our property is steep, as seen on the virtual tour and photo gallery. Pets are not permitted. Smoking is not permitted in the cottage or on the property.  Anyone with serious physical disabilities might be compromised by the stairs to the lower level of the cabin, the ladder to the sleeping loft and perhaps by the stairs to the dock. Please ask in advance if you have any concerns of the kind. We are happy to answer any questions about our cottage or property but determining the suitability of the property and cottage for your party is your responsibility.  Be sure to explore the virtual tour and as necessary, stop the movement of the film by clicking on the photo or hitting the pause on your media player. Many photos are also available in the photo gallery section of the web site.

The summer months, May through August and often September, are very warm and dry and thus strict fire precautions are ususally in effect.

A starter supply of drinking water is provided and when this has been used, the large plastic bottles can be refilled at the shopping centre on North Pender Island. Beyond the large bottle (5 gallons) we leave, this is a user-pay item.  If you are coming to the island by bike or boat, special arrangements can be made for delivery of drinking water.

There is a freezer in the gate house which is connected to the grid. There is a subzero, undercounter fridge.  Guests are welcome and encouraged to use the freezer and large fisherman's cooler, stocked with ice blocks from the freezer to make best use of the solar, or in the alternate run the generator periodically to maximize the  charge in the batteries if / when the fridge is used.

A minimum of very basic technical competence is required to run the generator in the event that the solar power needs supplementing. This is very easy and not often necessary. An orientation is provided and simple to follow written instructions are left at the cabin, thus requiring only basic reading comprehension and basic listening skills. This is a rural, island cottage, not a condo or hotel room and although it is equipped with all the basic comforts, there are a few things that will be different such as the need to deal with garbage and recycling appropriately and the need to be very careful about using the solar power, respecting fire restrictions, following instructions provided in the information book, or by one of us during orientation, etc.  Pender Island has gas, cash machine, gift stores, several grocery stores, a bakery, internet cafes, several excellent restaurants, a hardware store, pharmacy, art galleries, etc.  Our location is ideal and nearly all amenties are within 4 or 5 kilometers from the cottage.

The cottage is the only house on the property. The main floor of the cottage is approximately 600 square feet. The sleeping loft is an additional 120 square feet and the lower level of the cabin is another 600 square feet. The sleeping loft and the lower level each have a queen size bed and the main level has a sofa that folds down into a very comfortable queen size fouton bed. Single foam foldup beds are also available on request. Stairs to the lower level are open.  The floor plan is open, as seen on the virtual tour. There are two very large decks, one off the lower level and one off the main floor level. Both decks are open to the garden at one end and closed at the other end. There is an antique, double-ended soaker tub on the lower deck. Couples or other parties of 2 may elect to use only the main level, the sleeping loft and the decks in which case they should ask for a discount. When this discount is granted, the lower level will be locked but no one else, other than the booked guests will  be staying anywhere on the property.  The  cottage and all 3.5 acres are there for your comfort and complete privacy.

The lower level of the cottage is not normally included in low season rentals and it may also not be available during some shoulder season bookings - please ask.  When not available, it is simply locked but guests may still use the lower level deck, the soaker tub, etc.
